MUSIC AND TRADITION
The first piece of music I thought about when considering Christmas music played at church was Silent Night. This song provides such a beautiful picture of the birth of Jesus!! We sing it in our candlelight service at home every year. It was also a song I sang in chorus when I was in the 4th grade...Whether I was on key or not was up to the audience to decide, but I sang my heart out! This song is a classic that I enjoy listening to, no matter the season.
"Amazing Grace" is another song that is very dear to my heart. There is so much beauty and truth wrapped up in this song in reference to the grace we are shown by Jesus. I videoed this in Scotland while we were on a mission trip and actually the man playing the bagpipes is on the street that led up to the Edinburgh Castle, which is pretty cool! The song just fits so well on the bagpipes. While it is believed that the bagpipes originated in Ancient Egypt, Scotland is well-known for having many very skilled pipers. This song takes me back to many memories of listening to my grandma sing this song. My grandmother loved this song and would sing it many times. She was a part of our church's choir and had an amazing voice. At her funeral, we had a piper come play "Amazing Grace" at the end of her funeral to honor her and also show her love for the Lord and how important her faith in Jesus Christ was to her and her family. (Hopefully, the sound isn't too bad in the video - I was recording, and there were lots of people around at the time.)
This song is just a fun bonus. A lot of the songs that I've added to my blogs are about Jesus because I can't just keep the good news to myself!! He's changed my life in so many ways and replaced all of the fear and anxiety with so much peace. He took my sin and shame and turned it into joy!! This song is just a fun song that has a dance to it (it's honestly a workout). "The Chruch Clap" reminds me of church camp and VBS (Vacation Bible School) at my church back home. This song is played at many different church events, and it's always a blast to listen and dance to.
Thanks for reading! :) Jesus loves you!
Hi Landon! Christmas is not Christmas without Silent Night, it’s too good not to include, but I actually don’t think I’ve listened to Amazing Grace but I did enjoy listening to the bagpipes playing it (now thinking about it, I think I may have played it before, lol). I love The Climb, it was actually my brother who put me on and yes I agree that it’s one of those songs to help you keep going. Thanks for sharing the good news!
ReplyDeleteHey Landon! I agree that Silent Night is a Christmas classic, and I look forward to it every year! 😛Amazing Grace is a beautiful song, and I can understand why you and your grandma love it so much! 😊The Climb is one of my favorite childhood songs from the movie, but also when there was a Wii game and you could sing (distant memory, but I swear there was one!ðŸ˜) Also, the Church Clap is such a workout, oh my gosh! I remember we would do it during VBS too and everyone would be so tired after it was so fun!
ReplyDeleteHey Landon! Amazing Grace is a song my Grandma loves too! It's a lovely song and I was touched to read what you said about how it was played at her funeral since it was important to her and showed what she was passionate about, I think thats beautiful. I also have a deep, nostalgic love for The Climb! The message behind it is really great and growing up I watched the movie all the time. Whenever I experienced hardships growing up, my dad always brought up certain lyrics from that song to lift me up.
ReplyDeleteSilent night is a must play around Christmas time! It's so good and so nostalgic since it is a ritual to play around the Holidays for a lot of people. I remember listening to the climb in elementary school, love that you added that!
ReplyDeleteI love that you included the Church Clap (lol) and yes, it is a workout for the past few shows that I have done here at converse we used the church clap to warm up our bodies, so I guess it has somewhat become a new tradition for myself.
